The choice between paradigms includes setting two or extra “portraits” towards the world and deciding which likeness is most promising. A paradigm shift happens when a big number of observational anomalies arise in the old paradigm and a new paradigm is smart of them. That is, the choice of a new paradigm relies on observations, although these observations are made against the background of the old paradigm.
